Saving the baby

This was taken just a few hundred feet from where I work. I love photography! This beautiful baby barn owl suddenly disappeared this week....I had just taken a bunch of photos on Saturday night. It fell down three stories and was found unhurt. We tried calling the conservation officer and got no answer. So one of the girls at work was putting her in a kennel and bringing her to a farm that had an unused barn. Don't know if they will save her. Her twin and mother disappeared. We can't even get up there to check to see if they left or somebody was cruel and killed them. We just don't know. In the meantime, we will keep an eye out for the other two and try to save the baby that fell....

  1. Diane I'm sure I commented on this post before, but it says you have no comments. Maybe it flew out into the wild with that momma owl. I'm not sure what happened, but I love that you tried taking care of that baby owl. I hope it's okay and the rest of the family too.

  2. We learned from the Conservation Officer that when a barn owl raises two, she boots the weaker one out of the nest and leaves it to die. Luckily, there are caring people who stepped in. We don't know if we will save the baby, but we are trying. The young folk are taking care of the baby as they decided to leave them at a house across the back alley from the nest. Both babies are being fed hamburger and so far doing well. We shall see. On a sad note, the mother wants nothing to do with the weaker bird. We shall see how this all develops. We are hoping that it learns to fly like it's twin.
